Project:
The client is exploring the creation of the world’s first methane-linked bond, potentially structured as a sovereign bond issued by a Global South country. The bond’s coupon payments would be tied to methane abatement performance, with discounts applied based on measurable reductions in methane emissions over a specified timeframe.

Key Deliverables:
- Design a High-Level Business Case and Roadmap for a Methane-Linked Bond including:
- Market and Feasibility Analysis
- Bond Design and Financial Architecture
- Regulatory and Policy Alignment
- Financial and Environmental Impact Assessment
- Implementation Roadmap
- Develop a multi-stakeholder working group to build on the high-level business case.
Requirements
Experience Required:
- Deep understanding of [sovereign] bond markets, particularly in emerging economies, and experience working with or advising governments, multilateral organizations, or development finance institutions
- Expertise in climate policy and environmental markets, including familiarity with methane reduction technologies, carbon markets, and international climate agreements
Technical Requirements:
- Strong skills in financial modelling, risk analysis, and structuring financial instruments, with the ability to develop sophisticated frameworks that integrate environmental and financial metrics.
- Knowledge of monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems for methane emissions or other greenhouse gases.
- Understanding of regulatory and legal frameworks related to sovereign debt issuance and climate-aligned instruments.
Soft skills:
- Strategic thinker capable of developing high-level roadmaps and scalable solutions for innovative financial tools
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, investors, NGOs, and international institutions
